Russell Downing is the “new boy” when it comes to Thatcham, having moved here just 5 years ago with his young family from Plymouth and wasted no time transferring from Plymouth Round Table to Thatcham Round Table giving his family an instant group of friends and like minded people. During the past 2 years Russell has been working with Sheepdrove Organic Farm & Eco Conference Centre, and is very active within the local community, not only as Chairman of Thatcham Round Table, (a post he has held for the second time), he is also the Vice President of West Berkshire Chamber of Commerce Council and Chairman of the Business Action Group (BAG).
Until very recently Russell held the title of the youngest tabler within Thatcham Round Table, a title he was more than happy to relinquish to Thatchams two newest members. Membership has doubled in the first half of Russell’s table year as Chairman and he is aiming to double it again before handing over the chairman’s reins to his Vice Chairman Peter Smith, in April 2010.
In his spare time Russell is a keen Rugby supporter and can regularly be found at Newbury Rugby club, casually networking!! John Hampson has lived in Newbury for over 20 years but has only worked here, with the Newbury weekly News, for the past 5 so he is getting to know the place and people a bit better.
Pushing the age limit for Table to its "outer limits" John tries to keep up with the core members but is keen to help recruit new members and lower the average age.
In his spare time he is happy to hear from anyone who would like to learn more about the Newbury Weekly News or Newburytoday.co.uk and the opportunities they present for promoting local businesses, products, services or events.
